swiss college

sustainability management school:

  • business school based on sustainability.
  • located in Gland, Switzerland.
  • based on creating leaders who can mix business with sustainability.
  • offers a masters and a bachelors of business administration and sustainability management.
  • first school like this in Europe.
  • there are many things to do in Switzerland, like to ski in the mountains or go partying.

sustainable consumption and production:

  • in Europe products are being made more ecological
  • 80 % environmental impact comes from transport , building, food and drink
  • use ecological footprint calculation device to calculate the situation.
  • by 2050 you will need twice the earths surface to absorb our waste.
  • industry has the responsibility to change the impact their products have on the environment.

an inconvenient truth:

  • the earths sea level would increase 20 feet, flooding many countries and cities around the world.
  • temperature is rising more and more.
  • the hottest year was 2005
  • we have to take actions or else we will suffer the earths consequences.
Arizona state university:

  • to be great leaders you need to be innovative
  • great disappointments lead to great opportunities
  • the future depends on engineers to create sustainable solutions.
flight Moffett to phoenix:

  • flew across america in one day
  • a plane using only solar energy
  • a team who helped make everything possible
  • that it has been a long time that they have been working on it so it is very important.

In our city we can apply sustainable consumption by riding a  bike or walking instead of using cars, we could also buy ecological products and dispose them properly. Recycling would be a great idea and we could power places with solar panels and windmill. As well as creating campaigns to make people more aware of the situation. when we go shopping use bags that are reusable, or use a computer at school instead of wasting notebook paper. Starbucks has created campaigns to make their cups recyclable and make all their products more environmental friendly.

  14. cyber bullying due to discrimination
  15. the resources on internet like chat rooms and other social networks.

In the video the topic that i believe i personaly mostly identified with was my parents wanting to get into my things. I am a very safe and reserved person online. I am aware of the dangers that surf the web, but i dont prevent that from letting me have a social life online. My mom and dad where not very technological so i helped them make a facebook and use other internet resources. My parents respected my privacy alot untill they saw all the dangerous things on the internet. They started to look into my social feeds, my inboxes, what i saw online. At first it didnt bother me because i didnt do anything inapropriate but then i got mad because they where looking into my pictures with friends, my inboxes and my conversations with firends that are very close to me so i decided to block my parents from facebook and i put a password on my computer so that they would only be able to look at my online activity with my permission.

In the video the topic that i didnt relate with at all was the topic about nudity and fake identities. I would never have done what that girl did. To take revealing picrtures of herself and then post them on social networks or blogs. I know that she isnt the only person that does this. In my school there have been such cases that revealing pictures are posted online and they circulate throughout the whole student body and they lead to cyber bullying. That is something i dont relate with aswell but it tends to happen. I believe that cyberbullting is a thing for insecure people who get confidence by hurting others.

For all parents, i think that it depends a lot on your childs personality and their age. Many children are too small to identify a potential danger but other more mature kids can. So you should monitor that aspect a lot. Second of all, let them have their privacy. Children have many secrets like playground gossip which is harmless but if you are woried just talk to them and surely they will let you know if they need any help. If your child is mature then they probably wont get in any danger. If your child is unaware of the dangers then it might make them an easier target so make sure to inform your children fully on the situation.

I believe that being online has many benefits. You can chat with your friends through many diferent websites. You can learn new things and get more information out of the web, may it be for personal reasons o school work. You can make many things using applications online like prezi or play games. There are many tipes of games some for entertainment and many are educational games. you can also take classes online aswell as have class groups on pages like facebook which allows you to share information with others. So the biggest benefit of being online for me is the social and academic aspect.

GAFE

google apps marketplace is where you can find all the apps , some and free and some have a fee. It is similar to app store, here you can browse , there is a special section dedicated to education where you can find many things to help both teachers and students. for example for teachers you have course planers, grade books , worksheets and many other interesting apps. For students you can get help on certain classes and different things to create presentations.

http://www.google.com/enterprise/marketplace/search?categoryId=25&orderBy=RATING&referrer=Paging&offset=

I believe that most apps are useful  some more to teachers than to students. The only thing that i think is missing is to make it easier to use, since it is very complicated to use well at least it was for me.

    Internet safety

-What you know about the topic before your research

I know that you have to be very careful with viruses and sharing your personal information.

What you wonder or questions you have about the topic before researching

how can i stay protected from the dangers of internet?
what are potential dangers I might encounter?

Links to where you found the most useful information

Bullet list of things you learned about the topic

    • I learnt that many times chatting online can lead to rape, kidnapping and robbery.
    • you should never show personal information to all people because it can lead to identity thief and for online shopping it could gain access to your bank accounts.
    • to protect yourself against viruses you shouldn't open pop ups or adds.
    • your camera may be accessed and the images could be sold as child pornography.
    • you can download free anti viruses on your computer to prevent being hacked.
A short summary of how this topic connects/relates to you or your life

since now everyone uses internet on a daily basis for a large amount of time it is important to be informed of the dangers that come with browsing the web. Being cyber bullied , hacked and having your identity used for other purposes that are not your own can change your life drastically  So it is important to prevent it by using antiviruses and being cautious.

    Questions you still have

how does the government or police help stop the hackers and other online criminals ?

    Design project day 5

what was the biggest problem you encountered ? how did you solve it?
    - our biggest problem was how to place the prizes in a way that they would fall off once they where hit. we ended up cutting three sides of a square and folding it backwards so that it would form a shelf.

when did you get your biggest AH HA idea ?what was it ?
    - it was when we decided to include prizes because it would motivate the kids.

Who in your group resisted new ideas the most and why?
    - Lorenza because she thought that many ideas where not as efficient but usually we all agreed.

What doubts did YOU have about the project and how did you overcome those doubts?
    - we thought that it might have been a bit challenging for the children to get the ball to hit the prize but what ended up happening was that they would knock them all down.

Who in your group played "devil's advocate" (a person who questions everything, even good ideas) and how did that help the process?
    - Tatiana because she gave opinions about everything but they where helpful opinions because she was right to be questioning the problem or idea.

What did you learn about yourself, teamwork, and the design process?
    - I learnt that sometimes I tend to take the lead because I want things done my way but that the other members of the group have excellent ideas and that I should learn to be more open. and that designing things is more difficult then I expected.

    design project day 3

this game does match our descriptions because it is fun to play and it is not that easy nor that hard . It will also be sparkly and colourfull.
the most powerfull idea we have on our model are the prizes and the design to prevent people from just taking them. Also the colours and diferent sizes atrackt people.
instead of circles we can make them squares so that it is easier to build and the ball is more likely to hit it.

    What needs to be done:

    1. First we need to cut a large piece of cardboard that will then be cut into 3 equal pieces.2. In the middle piece of cardboard we will cut out squares of different sizes. 3. We will then fold it so it makes a cube with only 3 sides having the squares in the front.4. Then we will take another piece of cardboard with the same width as the cube and make it a slope and stick it to the back of the cube. 5. Finally we will create small shelves according to each square size to place the prize.6. After having the model done we will paint and decorate it with pink and sparkling things. We will all work together to complete each task.

The other materials we will need are:-paint-glitter-brushes-prizes- bisturi (Patty will lend it to us)-little bags Nicole will supply us with most of the materials.

    Design project-day 2

    1. the strengths and weaknesses of the drawing are :

TATIANA: she has added butterfly's which is very creative , the bad thing is that it might be harder for the children to win and they will get bored.

LORENZAS: it is easy to make but very dull and boring

MINE : it is organized but it might get too repetitive.

The drawing with most strength is mine because it is easy to understand and play but not to a point that it gets boring.

we will ad butterfly's around the circles so that is one addition , and we will add circles of different sizes.

something we would like to do is put the prize in a little bag.

we would like to take away always having the same prizes.

Feedback: we should make the holes round instead of square, and that they think it is well structured and a nice game.

    design project - day 1

    Tatiana Seinjet, Lorenza Galvis.

    define phase :
    1) elementary girls
    2) medium difficulty
    3) prizes, different colors, big and sparkly, different sizes, better prizes each time.

    research phase:
    1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o--fjol_Ehc this shows us how to make a spinner which is great. The only thing I might have changed is that it could give more ideas on how to use it.

2)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pfad7yukhIY here it is a replica of an app , that was recreated to real life. I think it is awesome but maybe it could be a little bit smaller, like on a smaller scale.

    3) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoLzIQ0NoBY here it shows practical games and how to create them. but i might make it a bit more colorful or attractive to play.

    ideation phase:

    1) brainstorm . we thought of many things like one having many holes and prizes in the holes and you have to knock down the prize with a ball. Or one where we had to match the barbies and another one that included a claw machine.

    2) the idea we chose was one that consisted of holes with prizes in them, then they would throw a ball to knok down the prize they wanted and it would fall down a ramp. it would be fun because it has many colours .
    3) some things that can go wrong is that we run out of prizes , the ball gets stuck , the children steal the prizes. we will deal with this by giving the teacher a reset of prizes , and the ball will be a size that makes it un probable to get stuck as well as having spare balls. and the children will have a barrier that doesnt allow them to reach the prizes.
